"Mayan Woman" — one of the most significant works from Ana María Avilés de Martínez (1937–2012), a celebrated Salvadoran painter whose work is held in the Vatican, the collection of the Duchess of Alba, and the Ronald Reagan Presidential collection. Painted as part of a 44-work series inspired by pre-Columbian Mayan culture, this piece launched her career in 1976.
